Talks and workshops introduce students to a specialty, but mentorship provides sustained, one-to-one support across the year. Each year, students apply for a place on our mentorship scheme and, if successful, are matched with a surgeon working in their specialty of interest.
Applicants outline their specialty of interest and their motivation for seeking a mentor within it. The scheme is competitive, with places limited to ensure each pairing receives adequate attention.
We match each successful applicant with a surgeon working in their preferred specialty. Our mentor pool covers neurosurgery, cardiothoracics, orthopaedics, general surgery, plastic surgery, ENT, paediatrics, vascular surgery, transplant, OMFS, and more.
Each pairing is expected to maintain contact throughout the year, whether through regular meetings, shadowing opportunities, or ongoing correspondence.
